In the fast changing digital world where computer and digital literacy is of paramount importance in pursuing any career path, learning how to work with computers has become indispensable. Understanding this need of the hour, and lack of digital literacy among the youth of Dhok Hassu community, the Roshan Aaj Library and Learning Center at AHKRC arranged a one-day capacity building workshop where more than 35 children were trained about digital literacy using the specialized computer instruction module.
The main focus of the workshop was to educate students about the growing field of computer science, which can prove to provide lucrative career opportunities in the future. To make this learning session interesting, experienced speakers with computer expertise were invited at the Library and Learning Center to give presentations, and conduct group activities, making this workshop engaging and informative.
The first speaker, Mr. Haroon Rasheed – a Global 2017 UGrad Alumnus, gold medalist, and computer engineer – introduced the concept of digital literacy to the students, and further discussed the importance of digital education in his session.
The second speaker, Mr. Faisal Shabbir – a freelancing enthusiast – educated participants about the basics of freelancing. He discussed how using your knowledge, skills and abilities through freelancing from home can prove to be significant income stream for many. He also pointed students towards useful websites for students to learn more about freelancing, and to earn money through, in the future.
The last speaker was Mr. Ilyas Khan – a software engineer by profession – provided practical insights about working in the IT and software industry, and the education requirements regarding what to study for making a career in this field.
By conducting such workshops, AHKRC’s Library and Learning Center hopes to broaden the thinking horizon of its students by increasing their knowledge about different new age topics and fields.
